How Can a Non-Surgical Jawline Treatment Transform the Face and Neck?
By Kristen Barnett, NP — Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner at California LASIK & Eye, Sacramento, CA
As an aesthetic nurse practitioner, I specialize in non-surgical facial rejuvenation, with a focus on restoring balance and structure rather than overfilling. In my clinical experience, one of the most effective ways to improve the jawline and neck is to take a comprehensive, full-face approach.
This means evaluating not just the jawline, but how volume loss, muscle activity, and skin quality all work together. A recent patient transformation illustrates how this strategy can create natural-looking results.
What Does a Real Patient Experience With Non-Surgical Jawline Treatment Look Like?
One of my patients, Dena Kouremetis, came to me with a specific goal ahead of a meaningful life event.
“I wanted my daughter to not only feel proud of how I looked; I also want to feel great while I was there and afterward,” she shared before a trip to London to celebrate her 74th birthday.
As a professional audiobook narrator, she wanted subtle, natural results. She was also concerned that recent weight loss might contribute to sagging and wrinkles, particularly in her neck and jawline.
During her consultation, she asked thoughtful, detailed questions—something I always encourage. Understanding patient expectations is essential to building a treatment plan that aligns with both anatomy and goals.
What Is a “Top-Down” Approach to Jawline Contouring?
In my practice, jawline contouring begins with the upper face—not the jawline itself.
This “top-down” approach ensures that foundational volume is restored before refining the lower face. It also helps avoid overfilling the jawline, which can create an unnatural or heavy appearance.
In Dena’s case, her upper face was well preserved. She had smooth skin, minimal wrinkles above the mid-cheek, and no significant under-eye concerns.
Because of this, we focused first on enhancing the cheek area to provide structural support before moving to the lower face.
How Does Radiesse Improve Jawline Contouring?
Radiesse is a calcium-based dermal filler used to restore volume and improve structural support in the face. In my experience, it is especially useful for non-surgical jawline treatment because of its firmer, more supportive consistency.
For Dena, we used Radiesse to:
- Sculpt and define the jawline
- Add structure to the back of the face
- Elongate the chin for better balance
- Address early jowling along the anterior jawline
We also used a softer filler in the chin shadow area to create harmony and avoid a harsh or overly angular look.
This layered approach helps maintain a natural appearance while improving definition.
Can Non-Surgical Jawline Treatment Improve the Neck?
Yes—when appropriate techniques are used.
Hyperdiluted Radiesse is a technique where the filler is diluted and used to improve skin quality rather than add volume. In Dena’s treatment plan, we performed two sessions to support a more structured and refined neck appearance.
In my clinical experience, this approach can help improve the look of skin texture and mild laxity over time.
What Is the Difference Between Xeomin and Botox?
Patients often ask about the difference between neurotoxins used in aesthetic treatments.
Xeomin is a purified neurotoxin that relaxes targeted muscles to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Like Botox, it works by temporarily limiting muscle movement.
In my experience, some patients report a faster onset and longer duration with Xeomin, though results can vary individually.
For Dena, we used Xeomin to:
- Create a subtle brow lift by treating the glabella and upper eye area
- Soften crow’s feet
- Open the eye area for a more refreshed look
What Is a Nefertiti Neck Lift?
The Nefertiti neck lift is an advanced non-surgical jawline treatment that targets the lower face and neck.
The Nefertiti neck lift uses neurotoxin injections along the jawline and platysma muscle to improve contour and reduce downward pull.
Shortly before her trip, we performed this treatment using Xeomin to refine Dena’s chin, jawline, and neck bands.
This step helped enhance the transition between her face and neck while maintaining a natural look.
What Results Can You Expect From Jawline Contouring?
Results from jawline contouring vary based on anatomy, skin quality, and treatment approach.
When Dena returned from London, she shared:
“I felt great the entire trip. My confidence was off the charts because when I saw my face and neck in the mirror, I felt I had gotten a new lease on life.”
From my perspective as her provider, her results reflected improved balance, definition, and overall facial harmony—without looking overdone.
She also mentioned wishing she had started earlier, which is something I often hear from patients who prefer a gradual, preventative approach.

Is Non-Surgical Jawline Treatment Right for You?
If you’re noticing early sagging, volume loss, or reduced definition, a non-surgical jawline treatment may be an option to consider.
In my practice at California LASIK & Eye in Sacramento, I focus on conservative, customized plans. Not every patient needs every treatment—but the right combination can create meaningful, natural-looking improvements.
