Meet Kristen Barnett, NP: A Trusted Expert in Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

By Kristen Barnett, NP — Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner at California LASIK & Eye, Sacramento, CA

I’m Kristen Barnett, a board-certified nurse practitioner specializing in medical aesthetics. My background spans oncology, dermatology, and advanced aesthetic treatments, which allows me to approach each patient with both clinical depth and an artistic eye.

At Get Out of Wrinkles in Sacramento, my focus is simple: help patients feel like themselves again. My work is not about changing who you are—it’s about restoring what time, stress, or life changes may have taken away.

What Is My Approach to Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation?

In my clinical experience, the most effective non-surgical facial rejuvenation comes from treating the face as a whole—not focusing on just one area.

Non-surgical facial rejuvenation refers to treatments like dermal fillers, neurotoxins, and laser therapies that improve appearance without surgery. These treatments are designed to restore volume, soften lines, and improve skin quality.

My role is to guide you through your options, educate you, and create a plan that aligns with your goals. I believe patients should feel informed and empowered—not pressured.

What Does a Real Patient Transformation Look Like?

One experience that has stayed with me involved a patient preparing for her daughter’s wedding.

She came in wanting to feel like a younger version of herself for that special moment. Based on my assessment, we created a treatment plan that included dermal fillers to restore volume, Xeomin to soften wrinkles, and laser skin resurfacing.

She trusted me to guide the process. Over time, she shared that she felt a renewed sense of confidence—something she hadn’t felt in years.

Moments like that reinforce why I do this work. Helping someone feel comfortable in their own skin again is incredibly meaningful to me.

Why Is Trust So Important in Aesthetic Treatments?

Trust is the foundation of everything I do.

I’ve seen environments where patients are made to feel insecure in order to sell more treatments. That approach doesn’t align with my values.

Instead, I focus on listening. I want to understand what truly bothers you—not introduce new concerns. My goal is to become your partner in the process, helping you make decisions that feel right for you.

How Did My Medical Background Shape My Practice?

Before entering aesthetics, I spent years in gynecologic oncology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

There, I worked as both a nurse and nurse practitioner, as well as in the Center for Perioperative Optimization. I regularly supported patients and families through complex and emotional medical decisions.

I also worked in a survivorship program, caring for women after surgery and chemotherapy. That experience strengthened my empathy, communication, and ability to provide thoughtful, individualized care—skills I carry into every aesthetic consultation.

What Is My Experience in Dermatology and Skin Health?

After oncology, I transitioned into dermatology through my work with Curology in San Diego.

There, I treated thousands of patients with acne, rosacea, hair loss, and aging concerns. I also contributed to provider training and collaborated with medical teams to develop treatment protocols.

Later, I served as a Nurse Practitioner and Product Development and Lab Lead, helping create prescription formulas and over-the-counter skincare products—including sunscreen formulations now available through major retailers.

What Treatments Do I Offer in Medical Aesthetics?

In my current and previous roles, including MedSpa Director at California LASIK and Eye and practitioner at Bodylase Skin Spa, I’ve developed experience in a wide range of treatments.

These include:

  • Dermal fillers (Radiesse+, Belotero+, Revanesse Versa+)
  • Neurotoxins (Botox and Xeomin)
  • Facial and neck “sculpting” techniques
  • Skin hydration treatments such as Skinvive
  • IPL and laser skin resurfacing
  • Microneedling
  • Medical treatment of hair loss, including oral medications, topicals, and PRP

Each treatment plan is customized. My goal is always natural-looking results that align with your features—not trends.

How Do I Decide Between Non-Surgical and Surgical Options?

Honesty is a key part of my approach.

While I specialize in non-surgical facial rejuvenation, I recognize that not every concern can be addressed without surgery.

If a surgical option—such as blepharoplasty for under-eye bags—is more appropriate, I will say so. My priority is helping you make the best decision for your long-term outcome, not just offering what I provide.

What Is My Philosophy on Aesthetic Results?

I believe in conservative, thoughtful treatment.

The goal is not to look “done,” but to look refreshed and balanced. When done well, aesthetic treatments should enhance your confidence without drawing attention to the work itself.

For me, the most rewarding part of this field is seeing how patients carry themselves afterward—with more confidence, ease, and self-assurance.
